Ever wonder what type of training is required to work in the aviation field of flight and maintenance? Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology is hosting AERO Day on Saturday, March 9th – an all-campus-wide, interest-sparking, hands-on event that invites high school seniors and anyone interested in receiving a behind-the-scenes look at aviation training and where to begin.
Spartan offers a variety of collegiate aviation programs and is proud of their marker of training over 100,000 pilots and aircraft technicians throughout nearly 100 years of service via their campuses in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Inglewood, California; Riverside, California; and Broomfield, Colorado.
Spartan alum, Zack Anglin, who was recently featured in a viral CBS News Segment and interviewed on the Jennifer Hudson Show, will be on-site at the Tulsa campus AERO Day to share his motivational story and unwavering dedication to aviation despite the challenges of his physical disabilities.
“Anyone interested in aviation should most definitely attend Aero Day, as I was once that person, intrigued by what aviation has to offer and had dreamed of such an event. From the very beginning, Spartan took a chance on me by providing me with the opportunity to fulfill my passion as a pilot. My first flight instructor never gave up on me and Spartan’s staff supported me in my achievements by simply providing me with the opportunity to work with the best staff and facilities that anybody could ever ask for. This event showcases to the public how committed and passionate Spartan College is about training and producing our future in aviation.”
AERO Day will provide an immersive experience for guests through engaging activities and interactive experiences. Live training demonstrations will take place on-site, along with participation certificates for guests who are interested in starting or expanding their aviation portfolios. The event will also feature a special guest speaker who will speak about the state of the aviation industry and answer questions.
AERO Day Event Highlights:
A three-time state-qualifying high school wrestler in his home state of Wisconsin, Zack’s limb differences have never defined him. When he announced his senior year of high school that he was going to learn to fly, many people were skeptical, but Zack was undaunted.
Zack moved to Tulsa, OK in 2018 after being accepted to Spartan College, but before he could begin flight school, he had to lobby the FAA to grant him a medical test to prove he could fly, a test he passed with flying colors. From there, Zack began his pilot training, learning to adapt and manage a plane’s controls.
In 2019, Zack earned his FAA license, and today he’s a flight instructor at Spartan, proving to his students that there is nothing they can’t overcome.
