Spartan Tulsa’s Grand Re-Opening – Celebrating 96 Years of Aviation Training

Tulsa, OK, [Friday, October 4, 2024] – Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology is proud to announce the Grand Re-Opening of its Tulsa Main Campus, commemorating 96 years of excellence in aviation training. The upgraded facilities reinforce Spartan’s commitment to providing hands-on aviation education for future aviators. The updated main campus will serve an increasing number of students pursuing training in aviation maintenance, avionics, and aviation technology.

“Our relocation of North Campus students to our newly remodeled and upgraded hangars at the Pine Street campus reflects our dedication to delivering cutting-edge learning environments,” said Amy Moore, Spartan’s Dean of Academic Affairs and Operations. “This move brings all students together at one location, fostering greater collaboration and a stronger sense of community among the next generation of aviation professionals.”

The main campus that is re-opening is where aviation electronics students learn component-level troubleshooting skills through a 50% hands-on curriculum working with industry-relevant equipment and training aids. The campus houses the general education courses needed to complete a Spartan College associate degree program, as well as bachelor level courses. Spartan College’s Tulsa Main Campus also has aviation electronics labs including a training lab for the building and programming instruction of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and all Spartan administration needs.

The revamped campus features aviation electronics labs, including a dedicated training lab for building and programming unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). Two remodeled hangars that now support the expanding Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program, with one focused on airframe components and the other on power plant systems. Additionally, new areas have been designed for sheet metal and composites training.

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology was founded in Tulsa, OK as Spartan School of Aeronautics by W.G. Skelly, President of Skelly Oil Company, on September 27, 1928. He established Spartan Aircraft Company and formed the corporation which built Tulsa Municipal Airport (now called Tulsa International Airport). Since then, Spartan has trained over 100,000 pilots and technicians, with campuses located in the following areas: Tulsa, OK; Los Angeles, CA; Inland Empire, CA; and Denver, CO. Spartan students have come from across the United States and over 40 countries.

The Grand Re-Opening event will feature a campus history tour, a guest speaker from the Tulsa Regional Chamber, and insights from industry leaders, followed by a networking reception. Spartan welcomes community members, prospective students, and alumni to attend and experience the newly enhanced campus firsthand.
