On September 21, 2024, Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology proudly participated in the nationwide 2024 Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD). This was Spartan’s first-time hosting a GIAD, and it was a memorable day for everyone involved.
We were thrilled to welcome so many excited families to our Tulsa campus, where young girls had the chance to explore the world of aviation up close. The event provided an opportunity for them to see and interact with the planes firsthand, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm about careers in aviation. One of the highlights was hearing from Ms. Garcia, a female airplane mechanic, who shared her inspiring journey in the industry. Her presentation gave the girls a real-life perspective on what it’s like to work in a field traditionally dominated by men and served as a great example of how women can break barriers in aviation.
But Spartan’s involvement didn’t stop there. We also had representation at the Greater Oklahoma City Metro Chapter of Women in Aviation International's GIAD event, which was held at the Atlantic Aviation Hangar at Wiley Post Airport in Bethany, OK. This exciting event brought together young girls, teens, and their families to learn about aviation careers through hands-on activities, aviation displays, and powerful stories from female professionals in the field. Highlights from the day included interactive exhibits, demonstrations from military air traffic controllers, and networking opportunities with inspiring mentors.
The event, which was free to attend, aimed to ignite a passion for aviation in the next generation while showcasing the diverse career opportunities within the industry. The atmosphere was electric as the girls engaged with various aviation-related exhibits and gained invaluable insight into what it means to pursue a future in this dynamic field.
Spartan College is proud to have been a part of this nationwide initiative and looks forward to continuing its support of women and girls pursuing aviation careers. GIAD 2024 was not just about inspiring the next generation; it was about showing them that the sky is the limit.
