The job of a nondestructive testing technician (NDT) is to uphold safety and reliability for a company, its people, and its products. Quality control procedures in energy, aerospace, transport, and manufacturing all use NDT methods. What an NDT does on a daily basis is test materials and parts used in structures and machinery.

As an NDT technician, you’ll put your skills to good use examining possible imperfections like cracks, flaws, or corrosion on machinery on a daily basis. In general, you’ll need problem-solving skills, attention to detail, IT skills, and communication skills. You’ll need to be able to use a wide range of tools and instruments necessary for testing.

More specifically, your NDT training courses will prepare you to use a variety of test methods including visual inspection, dye testing, magnetic particle testing, radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, and eddy current testing.

After completing your NDT training courses you’ll know exactly how to perform these valuable tests. You’ll learn how to use X-rays and CCTV and fiber optic cameras, how to stain surfaces with fluorescent liquid, monitor the acoustic vibrations, fire high frequency sound pulses and electricity, and apply magnetic particles to materials. In short, you’ll know exactly how to find defects and faults in building materials.

In order to perform specialized testing techniques you must complete courses in nondestructive testing. Spartan College offers excellent NDT training courses that are designed to build the knowledge and skills you need to do an excellent job on a daily basis. To give you a glimpse of the daily life of a technician, Spartan College offers short videos of how they teach NDT training courses in radiography, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particles, liquid dye penetrants, and eddy current testing.

For more technicians, the typical workweek runs from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Although this forty hours workweek is typical, technicians occasionally have to work late, early, or weekend shifts. Whether you work in a laboratory, a workshop, in the field, or a factory production area, you’ll have to wear protective clothing like gloves and eye protection.

Industries such as energy, flight, and automotive construction all want to hire prepared technicians who have undergone NDT training courses at a top aeronautical college like Spartan College. Whether you complete Spartan College's Nondestructive Testing (NDT) program or the Quality Control Associate of Applied Science Management degree, you will emerge with the skills you need to land an excellent job. Students of both Spartan College NDT certification programs graduate with the skills every employee desires.
