Three Warm Weather Tips For Your Home-Cooling Unit This Summer
Summer is here, and across the country, the weather is warming up. Every summer seems to get getting hotter, and some weather forecasters think it’ll stay warm well into September and the early autumn. Many of the Spartan College HVAC associates degree students are busy prepping their homes, and their families’ homes, for a hot summer.
Here are some handy summer tips you can use to ensure that any home is always properly prepared for the hot summer
1. Make Sure Your Ductwork Is Properly Maintained
If you’re going to be running an air conditioning unit this summer, you must make sure that your ductwork is in good working order. Leaks will cause much of that cool air you’re generating to be wasted. If not in good condition, you’ll have to run your air conditioning more often, and you’ll likely suffer “warmer” results.
At Spartan, we spend a lot of time teaching our HVAC degree students about the importance of maintaining ductwork. Students who complete our HVAC program in Colorado will know how to identify problems, such as mold or blockages, and can fix the issues.
2. Get a Programmable Thermostat
A programmable thermostat will give you more control over your air conditioning unit and heating/cooling in general. These thermostats can be programmed to turn on and off at select times or temperatures. A custom fitted thermostat will work with your air conditioning unit to reduce the unit’s workloads.
There are also smart thermostats that can even be programmed to react to certain conditions. These thermostats connect to your Wi-Fi and can be adjusted via your phone. Although these thermostats can be more expensive to purchase, they can save you money in the long run
3, Clean Your AC Filters
One of the first things at Spartan College that we teach our HVAC degree students is to check AC filters. If these filters get clogged up, they can decrease air quality. Not only that, they can also reduce cooling capabilities. Luckily, changing filters is a pretty straightforward process, but it a necessity to keeping your AC unit clean.
A Bit of Time and Effort Can Go a Long Way
If you want your house to stay cool over the summer, and you don’t want to pay a hefty electricity bill, make sure you implement some cost-saving measures! A little bit of maintenance and cleaning can go a long way in keeping your house comfortable and your energy bill affordable.
