Redstone College Fox News 31 Feature: Cold War Titan 1 Rocket A Modern Teaching Tool
To prepare students for the working environment and to produce professionals who can one day be the best in the industry, the Redstone College curriculum integrates training opportunities that provide hands-on experience. A group of 15 students enrolled in the Airframe and Powerplant program are spending their free time before and after school working on the Titan 1 rocket.
Built in 1962, the rocket was a very important tool for the military’s missile defense strategy during the space race. Capable of flying 6,300 miles with up to 433,000 pounds of thrust, the rocket’s engine technology uses similar mechanics used in today’s engines and provides unmatched experience for students. Once students are done refurbishing the rocket it will be displayed at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver.
