The Spartan College Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning program offers students hands‐on experience with small‐, medium‐ and large‐scale heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Each class offers a balance between lecture and lab to present the lessons in the most concise manner possible. Lectures are in‐depth and cover the system theory of both older as well as newer HVAC technology. The maximum number of students in a typical classroom is 32 and in a typical laboratory/shop setting of instruction is 24.

Upon successful completion of the HVAC training, students should be able to:

  • Explain the fundamentals of refrigeration
  • Know the principles of heating
  • Apply the principles of electrical theory to troubleshoot HVAC problems
  • Know how to install a residential heating/air conditioning unit
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems
  • Know how to use special test equipment, including meters and gauges
  • Understand the complexities of commercial refrigeration
