A&P technicians keep aircraft in safe flying condition by servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft components while following detailed federal regulations set by the FAA. Technicians in this field work on aircraft components and systems including the airframe, piston engines, turbine engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, propellers, rigging, control surfaces, instrumentation, warning systems, and environmental systems. Those with experience, advanced ratings, and administrative ability can be selected for supervisory and executive positions. All FAA knowledge tests and oral and practical exams are conducted on campus.

Some programs require up to 24 months to complete, but at Spartan, you can graduate in just 18 months with an associate degree in Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) that can provide you with entry-level opportunities in this industry. The A&P program is offered at Spartan in the day or night to offer flexibility for working individuals.



Aviation Electronics is also commonly referred to as Avionics or Aircraft Electronics. The main areas of concentration in this field include: communications, navigation, air traffic control, instrumentation and automatic flight control. Avionics technicians can work in maintenance, repair, manufacturing and installing new systems. Graduates of Avionics are not only trained in basic electronics, but in advanced aircraft communication and navigation equipment and their specialized test equipment.  With the advances of technology this also includes the field of unmanned aerial systems or working with unmanned aerial vehicles commonly referred to as drones.

Avionics play a key role in the development and construction of satellites, helicopters, UAVs and aircraft of all types and sizes. Technicians in the avionics field are responsible for the assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of these airborne and space-related components.


Residential, commercial and industrial buildings of all kinds rely on efficient climate control and refrigeration, maintained by certified professionals. Environmental concerns and the drive to reduce energy consumption also continue to spur the development of new energy-saving heating and air-conditioning systems, requiring the installation of newer systems in existing homes and buildings.

Our Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC) training program is fast-tracked and career-focused to help you move more quickly into the working world. With hands-on training under the skillful guidance of working professionals, Spartan’s HVAC program prepares graduates for entry-level HVAC positions in this field with a diploma in just 10 months, or an associate degree in just 17 months.
