About Our Host Speaker, Mike Everly
Mike Everly began his aviation career in Concord, Ca working for General Air Services FBO as a Mechanics Assistant. In February of 1985 he began an enlistment in the United Sates Air Force and completed training as a Jet Engine Mechanic. While maintaining Air Force T37 and T38 aircraft he enrolled in the East Mississippi Junior College - Air Frame and Powerplant course completing the school in early 1988 with an Associate Degree in Aviation Maintenance. Later that year Mike transferred to Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, Ca where he worked C141 cargo aircraft. While at Norton he completed his FAA testing and earned his federal Airframe and Powerplant license in 1989.
After his enlistment in the Air Force was complete, Mike began his commercial aviation career in 1990 as an Aircraft Mechanic for Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu, Hi. In 1993 Mike accepted a position with a new startup airline called Morris Air in Salt Lake City, Ut as an aircraft mechanic. In 1994 Southwest Airlines purchased Morris Air eventually moving Mike’s maintenance career to Las Vegas in 1995. During his tenure at Southwest Mike has worked as a Mechanic, an Inspector, a Lead Mechanic, in 2001 was promoted to Supervisor Aircraft Maintenance. In 2009 Mike had the privilege of being promoted to Manager of Aircraft Maintenance responsible for all Southwest Airlines Aircraft Maintenance in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
Mike’s 23 years of Leadership experience with Southwest Airlines has given him the opportunity to build a strong work force that is focused on Safety and Compliance while promoting local hiring and promotion of the aviation industry in the local Las Vegas community. He has built strong relationships with the Las Vegas campus of the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, the 315th Weapons School at Nellis Airforce Base and the local chapter of Junior Achievement. All of these volunteer opportunities are built around promoting Aviation Maintenance Careers and encouraging the next generation of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians to support the entire Airline Industry. Mikes volunteer work has been done while building a safe, compliant, high performing Maintenance Team at the largest line maintenance facility in the Southwest Airlines system.
