**Welcome Letter**
Welcome Letter From: U.S. Coast Guard Liaison, Spartan
College Of Aeronautics and Technology
To: Student, AMT and/or AVT "A" School Class Subject:
Welcome to Spartan College Of Aeronautics and Technology
Contract Aviation "A" School Congratulations on
your receipt of orders to Aviation "A" School. We
are looking forward to your arrival here at Spartan.
Working with the staff of the Aviation Technical
Training Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina,
a special curriculum has been developed for your
training at Spartan. The material you will learn
here will allow you to attain the same qualifications
as if you attended classes at the Aviation Technical
Training Center. With in the 20 weeks you are here
at Spartan, the aviation technical training course
AMT or AVT will provide you with hands-on experience
to handle, inspect, and maintain various aircraft
sub-assemblies and systems to the rate you have
requested. Additionally, during this training you
may also receive 9D5 dunker, low pressure, and physiological
training. I want to provide you with some information
that may make your stay here in Tulsa a little easier.
Spartan Aviation "A" School is a civilian aviation
vocational training center contracted to train U.S.
Coast Guard "A" school students. This training is
basic aviation fundamentals. Here at Spartan we
are under the command of Commanding Officer Aviation
Technical Training Center. There are no special
rules or privileges while attending Spartan. You
will need to read the student handbook on the ATTC
web page. All of the rules that apply to the Technical
Training Center apply here; in fact, there are additional
rules here. These will be explained in more detail
on your arrival. There are no major items you need
to purchase prior to coming to Spartan, but be sure
that you bring a full and complete seabag with you.
You will be required to stand inspections. You WILL
BE REQUIRED to wear an inspection-ready working
blue uniform to class each day with standard C.G.
safety shoes. If your uniforms are old or worn,
I recommend that you purchase at least two new ones
prior to your arrival here at Spartan. There is
no exchange here; you will need to do this prior
to your arrival. Nametags are required on your working
blue uniforms. Cloth nametags are preferred but
not mandatory; they can be obtained through several
sources. Flight Jackets are not an authorized cold
weather jacket and will not be allowed. All Coast
Guard "A" school students will be assigned to contract
quarters. Quarters and messing are provided and
are explained on this web page. Due to the availability
of quarters, individuals wishing to arrive early
must have their Leading Chief Petty Officers first
contact the U.S. Coast Guard Liaison. Quarters are
not contracted or available for early arrivals.
Members will be required to pay at their own expense
for motels until their report date. Members are
not allowed to contact Spartan directly for quarters.
If you have any questions, have your LCPO contact
me at (918) 831-5302. Again, congratulations on
your orders to Spartan. Have a safe and enjoyable
trip to Tulsa. The following is a list of information
that may help make your transition to Spartan a
little easier: Need a ride from the airport? Call
me at (918)-831-5302 and arrange for a ride no later
than Friday before 1600 prior to your arrival. Do
not wait until the last minute to make arrangements.
After 1800 contact the duty room at (918) 645-3196
or 4156. Arrivals between 1600 and 2000 should expect
very long delays in excess of three hours before
arriving at quarters. Members may be required to
take a cab to quarters and should have the funds
to do so. Appropriate civilian attire is allowed
for check-in. Remember you are in a duty status
for check-in. Is your government credit card paid
up? In the past there have been students who owed
money on their government charge card and had to
pay out of pocket before receiving reimbursement
from their last unit. You are here TAD and the Credit
Card Company is not going to wait 20 weeks for their
money. You are ultimately responsible for paying
them. Mutual Assistance loans are very difficult
to obtain here at Spartan. Is your MRN PO course
completed? Are you prior service, and not completed
the MRN PO course? MRN PO Course for E-4 must be
completed and in your PDR, or you will not be able
to complete the course at Spartan. Failure to comply
will prevent your advancement to E-4 upon graduation.
You will graduate as an ANAMT or ANAVT (E-3 rated).
MRN Qualifications for E-4 must be completed and
in your PDR. Failure to complete the E-4 Qualifications
will prevent your advancement to E-4 upon graduation.
You will Graduate as an ANAMT or ANAVT (E-3 rated).
Is your Airman Syllabus completed? Is it or a copy
of it in your PDR? Your Airman Syllabus must be
completed and in your PDR, or you will not be able
to complete the course at Spartan. Failure to comply
will prevent your advancement to E-4 upon graduation.

Is your ID card up to date? Is all of your allotment
accurate? At Spartan there is no administrative
staff. All of this work has to be processed through
ATTC. Do you need to order cloth nametags for your
work uniform? You can order them through the Elizabeth
City Exchange at (252) 335-6296. Here is the number
to the Uniform Distribution Center in Cape May:
1-800-874-6841. Finally, being a staff of one here
at Spartan, I am not always available to answer
your questions. The AMT and AVT "A" School Staffs
can answer most of the questions or concerns. We
look forward to seeing you at Spartan! |
