Q. How do I know if I will quality for financial aid?
A. Financial aid is based upon need. Once our financial aid department
receives your completed “FASFA” form, the information is
sent to the appropriate agency. We usually know within fifteen (15)
working days approximately what you will qualify for. You will be assigned
a Financial aid officer to help answer questions and keep your financial
aid paper work updated while attending school.
Q. What if I don’t qualify for grants?
A. Financial aid is made up of more than just grant monies. Financial
Aid also includes student Loans and parent loans. Rarely have we had
to turn a potential student away, due to not finding a funding source.
Q. My representative talked about start up money, what is it for and
when do I need to send it in?
A. Start up funds are the funds needed in advance to attend school. For
example, a technical
Student using student housing will need start up funds to include housing
fees, first months
rent, and of course food and miscellaneous monies. A
flight student would also need to have his flight tuition pre-payment
along with his living expenses. Your goal should be to have all fees,
rent, and flight tuition pre-payments mailed to the
school two weeks prior to your arrival for registration. There would
be no reason for you to send the school your grocery and/or auto expense
monies. Make sure you budget for those items and bring them with you.
Q. Do I need to have my own transportation?
A. It is highly recommended that you have some sort of transportation
while attending school. This is especially true for flight students.
Q. What if I don’t have a car?
A. Technical students without personal transportation may be able to
car pool with a roommate,
classmate or friend. Helping the vehicle owner with fuel expenses can
be a win-win situation for
everyone involved. Of course those technical students living at Spartan
Landing are within walking distance of the main campus. It is very important
that flight students have personal transportation. Public transportation
is available to most areas within the Tulsa City limits. However, the
service hours are limited and there is no public transportation available
to the flight campus.
Q. Do I need to have my drivers license before coming to school?
A. It is highly recommended that you obtain a drivers license before
leaving your home state.
Or, at least make all needed preparations to obtain the license on your
first visit home. Getting a drivers license in Oklahoma could require
taking a drivers education course and cost several hundred dollars.
Q. Do I need to change my drivers license to an Oklahoma drivers license?
A. Full time students attending college in the state of Oklahoma are
not required to give up their home state license.
Q. Do I need to change my auto license plates and registration to Oklahoma?
A. Full time students attending college in the state of Oklahoma are
not required to give up their home state registration and license plates.
Q. When can I move into housing?
A. You must first go through registration, pay the initial fees and first
months rent before apartment keys can be issued. Most students are
moving in and getting settled by late afternoon on registration day.
Q. Does financial aid pay for my housing?
A. Financial aid is available to those who qualify and usually takes
care of books, tools and tuition. Financial aid does not normally pay
for living expenses. Occasionally parents will take out additional
loans or increase the parent plus loan to cover living expenses. The
majority of our students work a full or part-time job while attending
school to help pay their own living expenses. Spartan has a student
employment department that assists students in finding a job. Students
visit with a representative from this department on the day of registration
and are given a current listing of available jobs.
Q. What items should I bring to school?
A. If you are using student housing you will need to bring bedding, towels,
personal items, as well as cooking and eating utensils. Don’t forget a can opener and your
alarm clock.
Q. Is there a computer in my room?
A. Student housing does not provide any type of electronics. The library
on campus has computers with Internet access available for the student’s
use. High-speed Internet is available at Spartan Landing at the student’s
expense.
Q. What about school vacation periods?
A. There is a two-week break in the summer as well as a 2-week break
during the winter holidays.
We have many 3 and 4-day weekends throughout the calendar year.
